    GRuknebrod Gwynne has been the Executive Director of HandMade in America since January 2011. Previously, Gwynne was a Curator of Fine Craft at the Houston Center for Contemporary Craft, Executive Director of the International Society of Glass Beadmakers, Art Curator of The Works, and the Director of Columbus’ Days of Creation Arts for Kids. She is an accomplished glass artist as well as an arts executive, and has worked with both rural and urban communities and built strong stakeholder coalitions in both.

    Janelle joined HandMade in January of 2012 in communications and now is the Operations Manager. She previously worked in communications on Appalachian State University's Solar Homestead, a student-led team that designed and built a net-zero energy home for the U.S Department of Energy Solar Decathlon 2011. Janelle received a B.S. in Anthropology with a concentration in Sustainable Development and a minor in Community and Regional Planning from Appalachian State University in 2011.

    Angela Angela, a graphic and fashion designer, joined the HandMade in America team in July, 2012 as Communications Coordinator. Originally from South Korea, Angela has worked internationally in Korea and New Zealand. She holds a BA in Clothing and Textile and an MA in Fashion Design, and has exhibited her fashion work throughout New Zealand. Angela is also a Steering Committee Member of the Western North Carolina Fibershed Initiative where she is currently working on Project Handmade, a fashion show of local designers. Through her experience Angela understands the perspective of artists and makers, and she brings creative marketing, graphic design, and event planning skills to HandMade in America.

    Yoko Yoko joined the HandMade as the Program Coordinator in March of 2012. Yoko started working in a small business when she was 15 years old in her hometown of Hurricane, WV. She has since earned her BS degree in Small Business Management/ Entrepreneurship with a Minor in Art from Shepherd University, managed three small businesses, and owned her own for two years. Yoko believes strongly in the importance of business education and training for craft-based business owners and enjoys being a part of the arts community around WNC.

  • Helene Herbert

    Development Manager

    Helene Helene has been the Development Manager at HandMade since August, 2012. Originally trained as a musician, she holds a Master’s in Arts Administration and a Master’s in Business Administration from the University of Cincinnati. Previously, she worked as the Development Associate at Cincinnati Ballet and has extensive experience working for a wide range of organizations throughout the U.S., including the Brevard Music Center, Ensemble Theatre of Cincinnati, and Carnegie Hall.

    Jess Jess joined the HandMade team as Community Development Manager after working with the Asheville Area Chamber of Commerce, Convention & Visitors Bureau, and Economic Development Coalition of Buncombe County, where she gained firsthand experience in facilitating meaningful, relevant, and vital regional partnerships. She holds a BA in Drama from the University of North Carolina at Asheville and a Master’s in Entrepreneurship from Western Carolina University.
