The Jackson County Green Energy Park in Dillsboro, NC will host a one-day natural dye workshop with instructor Cassie Dickson on Saturday, October 2 from 10 am – 3 pm. Students will learn the processes for using native plant and natural materials to dye wool yarns in the colors of red, yellow and blue. Once those colors have been achieved, over-dyeing may be done to create secondary colors like teals, greens, oranges and purples. Participants should bring six ¼ lb. Skeins of yarn made of animal fibers only (silk, wool, angora or a blend of any of these). No yarn made of plant fibers. At the end of the day you will leave with 6 beautifully dyed skeins of yarn and the skills needed to dye at home.

This national competition will feature original works in all craft media: ceramics, metal, wood, glass, fiber, book arts, etc. This year's juror, Carol Sauvion, will select some 40-50 handcrafted works for inclusion.

Asheville Art in the Park will be providing access to some of the finest artists in the region this October with it’s Fall series. The event takes place on three consecutive Saturdays each June and October. Nationally known artists exhibit at this event and the best part is- they are local. Muddy Knees Design and Production is proud to once again offer local artists the opportunity to connect with the public in Asheville‘s Pack Square Park.
We invite you to come out to Asheville Art in the Park. Take an Autumn stroll around the Vance Monument and Hoss Haley’s marvelous fountain and experience the textures and forms of a truly unique garden. You will not only be participating in an art market, but you will be part of a cycle of giving as 10% of the proceeds from the event will be donated to a local art non-profit organization.

A special showing of 5 area artists in celebration of American Craft Week, sponsored by Heartwood Gallery at the Saluda Center. Stoney Lamar, nationally recognized wood sculptor, teacher and spokesman for American craft will give a brief talk on "Craft in Community" followed by a reception. The show includes wood sculptures by Lamar, wood turning by Mark Gardner, tapestry by Holly Wilkes, pottery by Kelly McCollough, and calligraphy by Michael Hughey.

Using their own landscape photos for a fun experience, students will set about harmonizing this unusual combination of painting media. For anyone who wishes they could remember the details of a plant long after they saw it, this workshop will teach how to make accurate, quick drawings of plants, using easy principles to achieve realistic proportion and perspective in rendering branches, stems, fruits and leaves. Using principles of botanical illustration, students will practice drawing with graphite pencils, moving to dry-brush watercolor renderings (optional) on day two.
